But even for this task, if more applications would use the scheme that InDesign uses, I wouldn't even need to use install or load.

I then make any changes, produce a new PDF or print proof, close the document and exit MT. Which simply and temporarily loads the fonts into memory. There are a few more things I think High-Logic should do with the application, but in general it has been my favorite font manager through a few major revisions of the application.įor quick changes to say a brochure, I don't use the Install from the library. Deleting should also remove them from the Ignore list. Using the Delete option in MT will remove them and add them to the Ignore list. One downside is that even if you delete fonts from the computer, they still remain in the vault/database and at the moment fonts cannot be permanently removed from the database but they seem to be working on adding that feature.

So far I like MainType better than the other two fontmanagers. Whether it has all the addional bells and whistles you need is something you need to determine yourself. MainType uses a font vault/database where it stores its fonts (somewhat like Suitcase does) and it is noticably faster to use than both Suitcase and FontExplorerX. (It still remains in the MainType vault/database for activating it again at a later time)

Now I am using MainType 5 Pro and this solved the one big problem that I had with FontExplorerX because it actually moves fonts out of the Windows Fonts folder when you deactivate it. So I switched to FontExplorerX (from Linotype/Monotype) and though it was better than Suitcase 3, not all software recognized that fonts in the Windows fonts were deactivated and in some programs I still got large lists of fonts showing up. I have used Suitcase 3, which can handle a large number of font, but it had issues and was slow. Try reading your chrome web page in impact font!

Hope you guys can help as this is really getting annoying. Are fonts stored in areas I cannot reach? Could the database be corrupt and if so, can I fix it? I have tried looking for and manually deleting all Arial fonts and then re-installing them, but this doesn't work. What can I do to get this right? I know we have thousands of files with strange fonts in them, and each one will have to be fixed as and when we need to work on them again, but this is crazy!

I was now given the task to once and for all try to figure out how to keep our fonts standard over various pc's.

What suggestions do you guys have regarding the best managers for large amounts of fonts? We use FontNavigator as I have yet to find a substitute that works quite as well as this one, nor one that can handle the 300 000 fonts we have gotten over the years. Now years later and many upgrades later, we have issues with standard Arial normal, Arial MT Black no longer works for the Italic export problem, and some of our other fonts are corrupt no matter if we download it and install it again from the net. Needless to say, confusion ensued with other guys who worked on my files not having MT Black, or not opening correctly etc etc. Now my work around that time was to just using Arial MT Black as it was more stable. It started with Arial Black that exported to italics by itself so if you exported something, converting it to curves before you do, you export not the standard Arial Black, but Arial Black Italic. Hi guys, we've been having issues with our fonts now for ages and everything we try to sort it out seems to make it worse.
